SC cautions students preparing for CET

December 16, 2005 17:03 IST

The Supreme Court Friday cautioned thousands of students preparing for medical and engineering entrance examination that it has not authorised any association to conduct the Common Entrance Test for admission to private unaided colleges and institutions.

Warning that students applying for such entrance examination will be doing so at their own risk, a Bench comprising Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P P Naolekar directed the Centre to give wide publicity to its order.

"The Centre is directed to give wide publicity to this order through Doordarshan and other national dailies," the Bench said.

A contempt petition was filed by Isheri K Ganesh, chairman of a Pharmacy college in Tamil Nadu, alleging that All India Medical and Engineering Colleges Association was issuing advertisements in newspapers about holding of CET claiming that it was permitted by the apex court to conduct examination on all India basis.

Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanian submitted that neither the government nor any of its agencies have permitted any association to conduct all India entrance test.

The Bench asked AICET counsel Pravin Parekh to file reply to the contempt petition.
