Centre adopting soft approach towards banned outfits: Yechury

"A few Congress leaders along with Trinamool Congress leader and Union Minister Mamata Banerjee is extending support to Maoist forces to make temporary gains in the CPI-M ruled West Bengal," he said.

"The ruling parties should desist from such attempts," Yechuri said inaugurating the valedictory function of the year-long birth centenary celebrations of late CPI-M veteran E M S Namboodiripad in Kannur.

"The Congress appeared not to have learned any lessons from the past despite two former prime ministers getting killed at the hands of fundamental and banned outfits," he said.

Flaying the Centre for 'failing' to hand over all terror related cases to the recently constituted National Investigation Agency, he said the Congress' move was part of adopting soft stand towards extremist and fundamental forces in the country.

On the moves to hand over the entire terror-related cases in Kerala to the NIA, the CPI-M politburo member said the decision should have been made after consulting with the state government.

The CPI-M had expressed reservations while setting up Central agencies like the NIA apprehending that it could affect the federal set up of the country, he said.
