The Union home ministry has alerted all the states and union territories of an impending terror attack by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba during the Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday.
This is first major intelligence input sent by sleuths of the Intelligence Bureau ever since Sushil Kumar Shinde took over as the Union home minister.
According to inputs given by the IB responsible for internal security, the LeT has deputed three dreaded terrorists to disrupt Independence Day celebrations.
"This is an alert and advisory," a senior official in the home ministry told rediff.com over phone.
The inputs also provide the names of the three terrorists, but they are being kept secret. Key installations are being secured by local police and jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force commandos trained in handling terrorists.
Officers of the intelligence units of local police are not taking chances and are keeping a close eye on other terror groups emanating from Pakistani soil.
Raids are being conducted on guest houses in Jama Masjid and Paharganj areas of the national capital.
As a measure of abundant caution, the Delhi metro parking has been cleared of all the vehicles from 2pm on Tuesday to 2 pm on Wednesday.
