CBI director elected to Interpol committee

Central Bureau of Investigation Director Vijay Shankar has been elected to the executive committee of the Interpol, the organisation said in a statement on Saturday.

Shankar got highest number of votes after the second round counting.

'In the election to the post of Delegate for Asia, Shri Shanker received the highest number of votes among the contestants after two rounds of voting. Participants from 152 countries took part in the election at the General Assembly Session of Interpol at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil," the statement said.

He would have a three-year term as a member of the executive committee. Winner of the President's Police Medal, Vijay Shankar has put in 37 years of distinguished service and has served in various capacities.

'He has vast experience in the fields of criminal investigation, tackling terrorism, anti-corruption, economic offences, maintenance of law and order and police administration,' a CBI release said.

Shankar led a six-member delegation to the meet.
