A special court on Monday issued a notice to Central Bureau of Investigation after former Gujarat minister Amit Shah, accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, filed a petition accusing the agency of 'planting false stories' in the media to stall his prospects of getting bail.

The application by Shah was filed in the CBI court of additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A I Rawal, who issued a notice to the agency and asked it to file a reply by October 27.

In his two-page application, Shah has referred to a news item in a local daily dated October 7, which stated that CBI had caught the former minister of state for home holding a meeting with some politicians along with his son in the Sabarmati jail superintendent's office, ahead of the civic polls in the city.

Shah alleged in the application that CBI was planting such false stories in the media to malign his character, weaken his prospects of getting bail and influence witnesses.

He further alleged that CBI was doing all this at the behest of the Congress and demanded that an inquiry be ordered into the matter. Shah said that as he was under judicial custody and in jail, he should be protected by the court against such efforts by the investigating agency.
