CD fabricated, backed by powerful people: Prashant Bhushan

April 17, 2011 20:25 IST
Prashant Bhushan, a member of the Lokpal Bill joint drafting committee, on Sunday said the CD carrying purported telephone conversation between his father Shanti Bhushan, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh was "doctored".

The CD has been subjected to forensic tests in two laboratories -- one in the United States and other in Hyderabad -- and both the laboratories have confirmed "clear signs of doctoring", he told a press conference in New Delhi. "There are multiple signs of electronic editing in these conversations," Prashant said terming the CD as "doctored and fabricated".

"There was a clear conspiracy on part of some people which appears to have blessings of many powerful people in the country," he said. "Both the laboratories have confirmed multiple electronic editing in these conversations at very very critical places."

The purported telephone conversation between Shanti Bhushan, Yadav and Singh showed attempts at influencing a judge. Prashant said the "fabricated" CD is being circulated to malign the civil society and derail the process of drafting an effective Lokpal Bill.
