The Cauvery monitoring committee, headed by Water Resources Secy DV Singh, met on Monday morning.
The Tamil Nadu team, headed by Chief Secretary D Sarangi, said Karnataka should not deplete water in Cauvery reservoirs and water should be released to Tamil Nadu according to interim order of Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal.
The Karnataka team, headed by Chief Secretary SV Ranganath, said drought conditions were prevailing in Karnataka due to deficient monsoon and the state was not in a position to release water to Tamil Nadu.
The central
government representative Water Resources Secretary DV Singh said Karnataka should comply with interim order of tribunal.
Karnataka refused to give any assurance.
Tamil Nadu accused Karnataka of using up water in all Cauvery reservoirs for irrigation in new areas and not saving enough water for them.
Meeting ended without any compromise formula; Karnataka will give water only after rain results in more inflows.
If Karnataka does not release water in June, Tamil Nadu will find it difficult to provide water for kuruvai and samba crops from Mettur dam storage.
