Dr Prism became the first woman cadet to command annual parade at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune last week.

"Major Khan has been the source of inspiration for me and my success was because of his constant encouragement. My husband is behind my success. He has supported me in all my decisions," she told rediff.com with a sense of pride.

Dr Wahida Prism was given a warm welcome when she arrived on holidays at the Jammu airport on Friday.

"I was overwhelmed by the reponse of the people and particularly the media. I had told the family members not disclose to the media that I was coming home for holiday but somehow they got the wind of it and landed up in good strength. I had to spend hours with them to explain how delighted I am to have achieved this distinction," said Dr Prism who is a mother of a two-year-old son.

After having completed her MBBS from Jammu, she joined the Armed Forces Medical College to fulfill the desire of her father master Gulzar Ahmed who wanted her to serve in armed forces.

Her mother Hajira Begum was first amongst the relatives to hug her celebrity daughter who had brought name and fame to her state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Though the parade is over and has become an important part of her life, the words of Director General of the college Vice Admiral V K Singh still resound in her ears. "When he introduced me to the invitees, he said 'this young lady has done a good job.'"

"I was told only a couple of days before the parade that I would be commanding the parade. But I could not believe my luck when I was told that I would be the first woman cadet ever to lead the parade in the history of this prestigious college.

"I still pinch myself and see if this is true." she said. Dr Prism comes from a village in Poonch Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

"I do not know whether I would be able to visit my village or not but I want to spend as much time with my relatives as possible during the holidays," she said with a smile.
