Budget session to be adjourned on March 24

The Budget session of the Parliament would be adjourned sine die on March 24. The session would be resumed on May 23 and will continue till June 8. This announcement was made by Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran after attending a meeting headed by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Friday afternoon.

The decision comes in wake of the MPs demanding wrapping up of the session early in wake of the upcoming assembly elections in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, West Bengal and Kerala.

However, it is not yet known
whether the session that would be convened in May will be continuation of the budget session or an independent session. Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that the government's decision has come after an agreement between all the parties. "What can we do when the elections are being held in four major states and Puducherry?" he said. 

Among others who attended the meeting included Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram and Law and Justice Minister Veerappa Moily.
