BSY, family evaded income tax of Rs 339 cr: Cong

The Congress in Karnataka on Tuesday claimed that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and his family have evaded income tax to the tune of Rs 339.54 crore and demanded that the Centre institute a probe into it.

Soon after coming to power, Yeddyurappa floated several firms in the names of his family members and evaded taxes, opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, alleged at a press conference in Bengaluru.

He said the Congress demands an inquiry and he would soon write to Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in this regard.

Siddaramaiah charged that Yeddyurappa's family owned many firms and also had stake in various companies.

He alleged that the government had not released pension to the disabled, old age persons and widows for the past about five months though the Centre provides financial assistance for these schemes.

"Yeddyurappa claims that the state's coffers are full, but pension to several disadvantaged sections remain unpaid," he said, adding, Congress would launch a statewide stir if pension were not paid.

Disbursement of crop loan at 1 per cent interest has not begun, he claimed.
