A 'box bomb' on Friday exploded in the busy Chandni Chowk area in Central Kolkata creating panic in the locality during peak office hours.

Police, however, said there was no casualty.

They said that a box, which was lying near the crossing of Central Avenue and Madan street, suddenly exploded in the busy area, where people were on way to their offices.

Police immediately rushed to the area along with the city police bomb squad and sniffer dogs to ascertain if any other bombs remained planted around the place.

"Fortunately, there is no casualty or injury in the incident. An investigation is on," the police said.

"Preliminary investigation reveals that the incident was not a serious one. Normalcy has been restored in the entire area," the police said.
