Boundary row: Assam, Nagaland to abide by SC decision

October 30, 2014 17:35 IST

The Assam and Nagaland governments have agreed to abide by the Supreme Court’s decision on the border dispute in case the two states are unable to find a political settlement to the issue.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh urged the chief ministers to maintain people-to-people contact along the interstate border to strengthen peace and harmony. He also urged both the CMs to find an amicable solution to the border row.

The boundary dispute between Assam and Nagaland dates back to 1963, when Nagaland was carved out of Assam.

In 1988, the Assam government petitioned the Supreme Court seeking its intervention to resolve the boundary dispute.
