Intelligence bureau sleuths have rubbished the Punjab police claim that a 'lady James Bond' from Jammu and Kashmir is on the move and that she could prove to be deadlier than terror operatives trained in Pakistan as she had the ability to capture images of the targetted installations from mini spy cameras hidden in her ear rings or finger rings.
Senior police officers of Gurdaspur district had on August 20 informed the media about the arrest of four Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from the border between Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
In a statement, the police officers claimed that the 'lady James Bond' had surveyed several places and had taken pictures of potential Indian military targets. The terrorists were planning to carry out the attacks when the Punjab police arrested them.
"I do not know which 'lady James Bond' Punjab police is referring to. We have not heard of any such thing in the Intelligence inputs that we receive on a daily basis," Gopal Sharma, director general of Jammu and Kashmir police told rediff.com
When asked to verify the Punjab police claim, a senior officer of the Intelligence Bureau said, "It was nothing new. Punjab police is known for claiming to arrest terrorists even when the arrested people are mere carjackers or petty thieves. Four years ago, the same officer had claimed to have arrested dreaded militants. But when he came to know that his bluff has been called off, he amended his faults."
According to some police officers posted in key positions, in Punjab there are times when house painters are picked up and passed off as terrorists before media persons.
"The sketch of the 'lady James Bond' looks more imaginary. If you are to believe Punjab police, she gave them a slip while the men were arrested. Who will believe this cock and bull story," a top ranking Punjab police officer said.
