BSF to recruit 300 surrendered militants

March 03, 2005 19:37 IST

Around 300 surrendered militants belonging to the Bodo Liberation Tigers will be recruited by the Border Security Force on Friday, official sources said.

BSF Director General R S Mooshahary will handover appointment letters to the surrendered militants at the Kokrajhar District Sports Association indoor stadium, they said.

The surrendered militants will be inducted as constables, the sources added.

This is part of the February 2003 peace accord between the now disbanded Bodo Liberation Tigers and the Union and Assam governments.

BSF sources said more former BLT cadres will be inducted into para-military force over a period of time.

On Wednesday, Central Reserve Police Force Director General J K Sinha handed over appointment letters to 339 former Bodo militants at Guwahati.

The CRPF move is being viewed as the biggest ever rehabilitation package by a central force.

Another batch of 150 surrendered militants will be recruited in the Assam Rifles.
