BJP national council to meet on Aug 9 to ratify Shah's appointment

July 30, 2014 22:24 IST

BJP's National Council will meet at Delhi on August 9 to ratify the appointment of Amit Shah as the party president.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top BJP leaders from all over the country will converge at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium lawns in New Delhi to ratify Shah as the new party chief.

The BJP has entrusted the task of organising the National Council meet to its Delhi unit which is making preparations for the same, a top party source said.

The National Council meeting has been kept in Delhi in view of the ongoing Parliament Session.

Shah had taken over as BJP chief on July 9 after Rajnath Singh resigned from the post, soon after his joining the Narendra Modi cabinet.

Though BJP's parliamentary board, the highest decision-making forum of the party, approved the appointment of Shah, the move has to be ratified by the party's National Council, as per the party's constitution.

Shah scripted BJP's stunning victory in key state Uttar Pradesh in Lok Sabha elections that helped BJP get an absolute majority of its own and was rewarded with party chief's post.

Shah, 50, the closest aide of PM Modi, was unanimously appointed to the top party post in BJP at its parliamentary board meeting on July 9.
