A Bharatiya Janata Party MLA was marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday after he made critical remarks against the Speaker during a debate on the Centre’s notification giving absolute powers to the Lieutenant Governor in appointment of bureaucrats and issues relating to police and public order.

Speaker Ram Niwas Goel ordered the marshalls to remove O P Sharma from the House when the BJP legislator criticised him.

Criticising the Speaker, Sharma said, “We have all the right to protest. This is democracy. The Speaker is not being impartial.”

The comments made by Sharma were expunged from the records.

Earlier, Sharma attacked Aam Aadmi Party MLA Alka Lamba for accusing Centre and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung of trying to take away powers of the Delhi government.

The two-day special session of the assembly has been called to deliberate on the notification issued by the Union home ministry last week.
