UPA government will not last till 2009: Advani

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani on Wednesday said that the United Progressive Alliance government will not complete its five year term in office. Advani reiterated that the government will not last till 2009 and mid-term polls will be held in 2008.

"It is certain now that the UPA government at the Centre is not going to last till 2009 because of major differences within the alliance partners. The country is heading for a mid-term polls any time in 2008," declared Advani in Patna on Wednesday. Advani said that UPA allies are divided about the prospect of mid-term elections. "Their own assessment is that they will not do well in mid-term polls and they are trying hard to avert it. But all indications suggest that the country is heading for mid term polls next year," Advani said.

He also gave a clean chit to Bihar's National Democratic Alliance government led by Nitish Kumar. "The NDA government in Bihar is doing everything to implement the promises made before the people for the development of the state" Advani said.

Advani is scheduled to meet with local BJP leaders and workers to discuss strategies for the mid-term polls.
