NHRC to probe Bihar's missing children

Last updated on: March 02, 2007 21:21 IST

A team of the National Human Rights Commission will visit Bihar in the second week of March to enquire about 150 missing children and 581 missing women in the state.

Official sources in the state home department told rediff.com on Friday that a team headed by former CBI director P C Sharma will visit the state.

The team will also inquire into various cases of human rights violation including custodial deaths. During 2005-2006, there were as many as 247 custodial deaths reported from across the state.

In February, the Patna high court ordered the Bihar government to search missing children and women in the state and submit a report in this connection within six weeks. The court expressed its unhappiness over delay to trace the missing children and women.
