"We will work for opening exclusive police stations for women, manned by women, at every district headquarter," Additional Director General of Police P K Thakur said on Monday.
The directive was given by Kumar at a high-level meeting on Sunday evening, he said.
At present, there is no women police station in the state. Women cells, formed some time ago, look into their grievances.
The state government also decided to set up exclusive police stations for SCs and STs in all 40 districts. At present, such police stations exist in 10 districts only.
"These police stations will look into cases of atrocities against scheduled caste and tribe," Thakur said.
Bihar, which has only 80 policemen for a population of one lakh as against the national average of 145 for the same number of people, will recruit sub-inspectors and constables in a time-bound manner, he said.
The chief minister directed the police department to recruit 10,000 policemen, including 1000 inspectors, every year for the next five years to take the ratio of police per lakh people on par with the national figure, official sources said.
There are 4000 to 5000 vacancies of constables, which will be filled up by the recruitment board, while 400 SIs are to be recruited by the staff selection commission.
At present, the there are 85,167 policemen in Bihar.
The chief minister also asked the police to monitor cases pertaining to bungling in implementation of the Indira Awas Yojana.
