September 03, 2012 17:32 IST
Students of a local high school attacked a police station and set a jeep on fire in Sitamarhi, Bihar on Monday to protest against alleged inaction by police to arrest the accused in the suicide of a college girl.

Students of Parsauni Higher Secondary School disrupted academic activities in the school before taking to the streets on Monday morning to protest against the alleged failure of the local police to nab the named accused in the suicide of a college girl last month.

Superintendent of Police Vivek Kumar said the protesters attacked the police station and threw stones at it before setting on fire a jeep parked there.

Senior civil and police officials rushed to the spot, pacified the agitators and brought the situation under control, he said.

A student of local Goenka college, had committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence on August 23 alleging that she had been subjected to harassment and intimidation by some people. Her suicide note also alleged that local police had failed to take action against the accused despite a written complaint lodged by her.

A number of social and political organisations have been agitating for the past two weeks demanding action against the accused and action against policemen for not helping her.
