Bihar govt to confiscate property of 40 corrupt officials

After confiscating the assets of six corrupt government officials in Bihar, the state government has sought the court's permission to confiscate the assets of 40 corrupt officials.
An official of the state vigilance department said that properties of forty officials, who have been accused of having assets disproportionate to their known sources of income, will be confiscated.
The state government has initiated the process of property confiscation against them under the Bihar Special Courts Act, 2009.
The vigilance Investigation Bureau ADG P K Thakur said the department has requested the court for permission for confiscation of the properties of all the accused.
"The vigilance had already submitted the evidence against the accused in the court and hearing is underway," Thakur said.
According to officials of the department, those accused of having assets disproportionate to their known sources of income including clerks and sub inspectors.
Tribhuvan Rai, a sub inspector rank enforcement officer with the transport department, with assets worth Rs 1.06 crore is one of the accused in the list.
Ramashish Singh Yadav, a stenographer with the science and technology department tops the chart with disproportionate assets of Rs 1.42 crore. He is followed by accountant Sushil Kumar Choudhary with assets worth Rs 1.40 crore by inflating
the salary bills of police personnel in Muzaffarpur and then siphoning off the excess amount.
All of them held property in their own name as well as in the names of their wives, sons and daughters-in-law.
Till date the government has confiscated the houses of six government officials including Indian Administrative Service officer Shiv Shankar Verma, former DGP (IPS) Narain Mishra, a treasury clerk, Girish Kumar, motor vehicle inspector Raghvansh Kuer, former state drug controller Y K Jaiswal and revenue officer Y P Singh.
The government last year put in place the Special Courts Act to confiscate properties of corrupt officials.
