Seven people died in Patna on Friday after drinking illicit liquor, a state government official has said.
"All of them died at Menhdiganj locality in Patna city after they consumed illicit liquor," a district official said.
Patna range Deputy Inspector General Amit Kumar admitted that seven people have died but not due to drinking illicit liquor. "The cause of their deaths is being investigated," Kumar said.
Ironically, Bihar Road Construction Minister Nand Kishor Yadav described the incident as a 'conspiracy' to defame the state government.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar refused to say anything when media personnel sought his reaction.
A few days ago, nearly a dozen people had died in Bihar's Madhubani district after consuming illicit liquor.
Last December, spurious liquor had claimed 30 lives in Bhojpur district and 12 lives in Gaya.
