Bihar: 18 die after drinking spurious alcohol

Eighteen people, including five women, have died after consuming spurious liquor in Bihar's Bhojpur district in last twenty four hours. Four of them were admitted to a government hospital in critical condition, said the police on Saturday.

"The death toll from consuming spurious liquor in Bhojpur rose to 18 on Saturday with 11 more people losing lives," a district police official said.

All the victims belong to impoverished Dalit families.

Bhojpur Superintendent of police M R Nayak said that sixteen people have been arrested in this connection.

Bhojpur District Magistrate Pratima S Verma said a six-member committee had been constituted to probe the incident.
