Is Mumbai's Chowpatty India's finest beach?

July 25, 2008 20:16 IST

Which would you rate as India's finest beach? Go on, go on, tell us.

Kovalam, you think?

The sands of Puri, maybe?

Or Goa's beaches?

Maybe Chennai's Marina beach?

What would you say if we told you that none of these beaches figure among the world's 10 best beaches ranked by men's portal askmen.com?

What would you say if we told you that the only Indian beach to make it to the listing is Mumbai's Marine Drive (it's not a beach but a promenade) and Juhu Chowpatty, ranking at number 9, just above Venice?

This is what the portal has to say of its choice:

'Mumbai is the financial, commercial, industrial, and celluloid capital of India, but another one of Mumbai's points of interest is, of course, the beach. Juhu Beach, which sits just outside the city centre, is lined with Mumbai's best hotels.

'Best beach: Fringed by Marina Drive on the western side of the city, Chowpatty Beach is Mumbai's most charismatic.'

As all choices, it is open to one to agree/disagree.

Do think Mumbai's Girgaum Chowpatty is India's best beach? Do you have a photograph of what you think is India's finest beach?

If so, email the photo to us at citizen.reporter@rediffmail.com and we will run your choice on Rediff.com
