The Hyderabad Police on Monday arrested 22 Bangladeshi nationals, including two women, who have been staying illegally in India for several years.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) V B Kamalahasan Reddy said that Bangladeshis were apprehended after conducting raids in Jhirra, Muradnagar, Zeba Bagh areas in Asifnagar division and Mir Alam Mandi.

During the course of investigations, it was revealed that these immigrants had entered India illegally by crossing the border near Rajshahi, a Bangladesh border town, and Boghkalam in West Bengal's Mursheedabad. Some of them have been staying in Hyderabad for several years while the rest of them came recently.

Some of the illegal immigrants even obtained passports, ration cards, voter identity cards and PAN cards by furnishing false documents. They also opened accounts in various banks by furnishing these documents.

The police said that the detained Bangladeshis were involved in making bags and suitcases. Three of them -- Ateeq, Saifuddin and Syed Anwar -- married local women and settled down in Hyderabad.

The arrested persons were handed over to the Station House Officers of Asifnagar, Tappachabutra, Kulsumpura and Mirchowk police stations. The raids were conducted by inspector and sub-inspectors of the Task Force under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police Kamalahasan Reddy.
