At least 30 Bangladeshis have been reportedly injured in an alleged Indian mob attack.
A BSS news agency report said that Border Security Force jawans on Tuesday tried to force 200 'Bengali-speaking Muslims' into Bangladesh through the West Bengal border.
The report, citing unidentified sources, said after the attempt failed, the jawans backed a mob, which attacked Bangladeshi civilians across the border in the northern Lalmonirhat frontier.
The BSF has strengthened security along the border.
At the Subsidiary Training Centre of the BSF at Kharkan, near Hoshiarpur in Punjab, Additional Director General A K Mitra said earlier the West Bengal border was neglected.
Now nearly 2500km of the 4500km-long-border has been fenced, he said, adding working is on in the remaining areas.
Asked about the fate of the illegal migrants, Mitra said they have Bangladeshi ration cards and electricity bills.
Other documents found in their possession are sufficient proof that they are Bangladeshis, but their government has refused to take them, he said.
The International Red Cross Society, which has been informed, has arranged food and milk for them, he said.
