Babri masjid demolition case hearing put off again

October 05, 2010 13:14 IST
The hearing in the Babri masjid demolition case was on Tuesday deferred as the notification for nomination of a judge is still to be issued by the Allahabad high court.

"The matter was not taken up today as a notification regarding nomination of magistrate is yet to be issued by the high court," prosecution sources said.

The next hearing would take place on October 26, they said.

The special Central Bureau of Investigation court hearing the Babri demolition case is lying vacant after the transfer of chief judicial magistrate Gulab Singh, they said.

The district judge had written a letter to the high court requesting him to nominate a judge in the special court, sources said.

A key witness, senior Indian Police Service officer Anju Gupta, who was deployed as security officer with Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani, will be cross-examined by the defence counsel when the hearing resumes.
