Two days after Kamran Siddiqui threw black ink on Baba Ramdev after addressing a press conference, Ramdev's supporters held a demonstration at the Congress headquarters on Akbar Road. One of the agitators even threw black ink on a poster of Sonia Gandhi.
A scuffle broke out between the demonstrators and Congress workers following the incident.
The protestors shouted slogans against Congress party Chief Sonia Gandhi and leaders Rahul Gandhi and Digvijay Singh and said they will not allow anyone to defame religious leaders.
Interestingly, Tejinder Singh Bagga, the man who slapped Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, also took part in the demonstration.
While senior Congress leaders blamed Bharatiya Janata Party and yoga guru Baba Ramdev for the incident, both denied their involvement. Speaking to newsmen, BJP leader Balbir Punj said that the incident was shameful and such acts bring bad name to Indian democracy. "Such incidents need to be condemned," he said.
But Congress leaders are not willing to buy this argument. "It is a larger conspiracy to divide the society," Digvijay Singh told newsmen after visiting the spot, which is merely 200 meters from his office.
Tribhuvan Singh, the man who threw black ink on Sonia's poster, was handed over to the police by Congress workers.
Following the incident, more police personnel were rushed to the spot, which is next to Sonia's residence at 10, Janpath.
