Ayodhya is a BJP game, blames Congress

September 29, 2010 00:23 IST

The Congress is apprehending that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the sangh parivar would move to create trouble to make itself once again relevant politically, and for that they would fall back on the tried-and-tested Ram Janmabhoomi issue.

After having assured the nation that the BJP would abide by the court verdict, senior leader L K Advani has once again gone back to this theme song of demanding that the Ram mandir must be built in Ayodhya.

All India Congress Committee general secretary and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Digvijay Singh on Tuesday singled out Advani, and said that his Rath Yatra was the sole reason for the bitterness between the Hindus and the Muslims.

He said that as the country's home minister and deputy prime minister, Advani took no steps to build the Ram temple at Ayodhya, nor did he even raise the controversial issue.

Singh said the BJP would realise that 2010 is not 1992, and that it should refrain from inciting violence through its cadres.

He alleged that the man who filed the petition in the Supreme Court, Ram Chandra Tripathi, is a kar sevak while his lawyer Mukul Rohtagi is a lawyer for the BJP and has been fighting for the Gujarat government cases in the
apex court. "It was purely a BJP game," Singh noted.

The Congress has asked its leaders and workers to be present in their constituencies on September 30 to ensure that there is no trouble and law and order is maintained, and that communal passions are not ignited by the BJP, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other sangh organisations.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has once again appealed for peace and amity on Tuesday.
