Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Uttar Pradesh Kalraj Mishra on Thursday justified the Centre's move of filing a petition in the Supreme Court on the Ayodhya issue saying that it was in accordance with the demand of all parties, who wanted the dispute be settled through the judicial process.

The opposition parties and the Babri Masjid Action Committee had been saying that they would follow the directives of the Supreme Court on the Ayodhya issue in letter and spirit, and the decision of the central government to move the apex court is a step in this direction, Mishra said.

But, he alleged, instead of helping the government to find a peaceful solution to the issue, the opposition parties were out to vitiate the atmosphere.

Even President A P J Abdul Kalam, in his address to the joint session of Parliament, asked political parties to peacefully find a solution to the vexed issue, Mishra recalled.

Quoting the Acquisition of Certain Areas in Ayodhya Act, 1993 he said the central government can give ownership of the acquired land to any authority or trust through an ordinance.

Two conditions apply to this, one, the said trust or authority should have been formed after the invocation of the Act and two, the trust or the authority should agree to abide by the conditions imposed by the central government, Mishra said quoting the Act.
