The late Australian cricket legend Sir Donald Bradman will help boost relations with

India, Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said on Friday after a visit to Chennai and New Delhi.

"Cricket is a common bond between our two countries. It helps foster people-to-people links that are vital in a meaningful bilateral relationship," Downer said in a statement.

"Seizing on that link, the Indian foreign minister [K Natwar Singh] and I have announced that the Australian and Indian governments will support an exhibition of memorabilia of Don Bradman, to be toured to India's major cities."

Bradman, who died in 2001 at the age of 92, is considered to be the best batsman ever to have played cricket. He scored 6,996 runs in 52 tests spanning 20 years. His average of 99.94 runs per test innings is higher than any other batsman's.

During his four-day visit, Downer addressed the Confederation of Indian Industry and said Australian exporters could help Indian business.
