In the first such incident in Srinagar, unidentified men made away with Rs 14 lakh from an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) in a high security area after decoding the digital code.

The police say this is the first time -- the ATM machine remains intact -- burglars had used technology to loot money.

A senior police officer here said, "The cash case of the ATM is intact. The burglars fed the 12-digit code into the ATM, and decamped with Rs 14 lakh. Of the 12-digit code, six digits are entrusted with the bank management. We are exploring all angles and hope to nab the culprits soon."

The officer said that Tuesday's burglary had occurred early morning and the thieves had managed to do their job in few minutes.
