Why Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi cancelled his campaign at Shahpura at the last minute? Read on…
Rumours are abound after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s star campaigner Narendra Modi cancelled his campaign at Jaipur’s Shahpura area at the last minute. The programme was scheduled for November 28 at 11 am, and announcements had even been made, but the programme was suddenly cancelled.
Shahpura is home to the BJP’s state vice president Rao Rajendra Singh, who is pitted against the Congress’ candidate Alok Beniwal.
The mystery was solved by some Congressmen, who informed that Modi may have cancelled the programme, because as Beniwal is the son of Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal.
Gehlot Vs Vasundhara family
The fight is not just stiff between Congress Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and the BJP’s former chief minister Vasundhara Raje the assembly polls, but between their families too.
While Gehlot’s son Vaibhav and daughter Himanshi are campaigning for the Grand Old Party, Raje’s son and daughter-in-law -- Dusyant and Niharika -- have also been campaigning for the saffron brigade.
Significantly, except for Raje and Gehlot, no one from both the families is contesting the assembly election. However, there seems to be an advantage for Gehlot as his wife Sunita has been campaigning for her husband.
Manju vs Manju
In Jayal constituency of Nagaur district, which is reserved for Schedule Castes, there is direct contest between two female candidates -- who share their first name -- Manju.
While Manju Devi Meghwal is a Congress candidate, her namesake Manju Devi Baghmar has been fielded by the BJP. Interestingly, the similarity doesn’t end here -- both have studied the same subject -- public administration.
While Meghwal has done her PG in Public Administration, Baghmar had done her doctorate in the same subject. Interestingly, for the last four assembly elections, candidates with their names beginning with ‘M’ have always come out triumphant for this particular constituency.
Mohan Lal of the Congress had won twice in 1993 and 1998 respectively. The BJP’s Madan Lal won in 2003 and in last assembly polls Meghwal won the elections. It would be interesting to watch who between the two would win or if someone breaks the tradition.
