Assam: Abducted schoolboy released

June 12, 2007 15:46 IST

The abducted 12-year-old Rajat Agarwalla, the Class VII standard student of St Joseph School at Sonari in Sivasagar district of eastern Assam was released by kidnappers on Tuesday.

The abducted boy reached his home at Towkok tea estate near Sonari town at around 9.45 am. He was immediately examined by a physician and advised to take complete rest, according to a family source.

A police source informed that, as per preliminary information gleaned from the boy, he was kept in a thatched house in an unknown interior location by his abductors since his abduction on June 7. He was given regular food and not subjected to any torture.

He was made to walk for a distance by two of the abductors before they put him on a bus on Namrup-Sonari Road on Tuesday morning. The bus took the boy to Sonari town where he hired an autorickshaw to reach his home on his own.

The boy was abducted at gunpoint by suspected militants on the morning of June 7 while he was on his way to school along with his five other cousins in an autorickshaw.

He was apparently taken towards Nagaland by the abductors. Police and the army had launched a massive hunt to trace the abducted boy.
