Asaram's ashram attacked in Rajasthan

October 07, 2013 16:05 IST

Protesting against Asaram, against whom a fresh sexual assault case has been registered in Gujarat by two sisters, irate local residents on Monday ransacked his ashram in Kardhani area at Jhotwara in Jaipur.

Raising slogans against Asaram, who was arrested in August on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl and has been in prison in Jodhpur since then, a mob of about 15 people attacked the ashram and pelted stones breaking furniture, window panes and other items, ACP Jhotwara Nasimulah Khan said.

They also damaged vehicles, including a bus, two cars and some motorcycles, parked outside the ashram.

As the police arrived to control the mob, most of them fled from the scene, the ACP said, adding the situation is under control now.

Two sisters in Gujarat have registered complaints against Asaram and his son Narayan Sai accusing them of sexual assault, illegal confinement and other charges.

The complaint against Sai has been registered at Jhangirpura police station in Surat, while the one against his father Asaram has been transferred to Ahmedabad as the alleged incident happened there.

The incidents reportedly happened between 2001 and 2006.
