Parents of Kafeel Akthar, an alleged Indian Mujahideen operative who was arrested from Bihar earlier this week, have filed a complaint against the Bengaluru police for illegal confinement of their son.

The complaint has been filed before at Darabhanga in Bihar. Kafeel was picked up by the Bengaluru police in an undercover operation from Bihar and brought down to Bengaluru after being produced before a court in Ranchi.

Kafeel was arrested in connection with the 2010 Chinnaswamy stadium blasts.

In their complaint, the parents sought his production in Bihar and also alleged that the Bengaluru police have detained him illegally. They also alleged that the Bengaluru police had tortured Kafeel's aged father while carrying out the arrest.

Kafeel's arrest has not been short of controversy. Chief Minister of Bihar Nithish Kumar had raised objection to the Bengaluru police not keeping his administration in the loop before carrying out the arrest.

The Bengaluru police however termed it as an exceptional situation and said that in such cases, the state administration can be informed later. Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda also said that he would write to Kumar clarifying their stand on the matter.
