The Patna High Court on Thursday ordered the arrest of former Bihar minister, Surendra Prasad Yadav.

Yadav has an arrest warrant pending against him.

High Court on Monday ordered an inquiry as to why the Bihar Police did not arrest Yadav despite a non-bailable warrant issued by a Gaya court.

The court has taken serious note that Yadav was not arrested at the time of filing his nomination papers from Belaganj assembly seat in Gaya district on January 15.

The court early this month asked the police to submit a list of absconders to poll returning officers so that they could be arrested while filing nominations.

The police have prepared a list of 20,000 absconders

A division bench of the court ordered Yadav's arrest after Gaya district Judge SC Jha submitted its inquiry report and informed the court that the arrest warrant was not with the police due to some 'error'.

The court then directed the Gaya district judge to issue a fresh arrest warrant and also set a deadline to arrest him.

Gaya SP Sanjay Singh told the court last Monday that police could not arrest Yadav as the warrants had not reached them.

Yadav is implicated in three criminal cases.
