An army trooper was detained on Monday for alleged misbehaving with a school girl in north Kashmir's Wanigam village, 45 kms from capital Srinagar.
The incident comes close on the heels of allegations of abduction and gang rape of a woman against two soldiers in south Kashmir's Manzgam village last week.
According to a police spokesman, the army trooper misbehaved with the school girl while she was on her way to her school in Wanigam village. The incident led to protests in the area by locals, who also blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway.
Senior army and police officers immediately rushed to the spot and the army trooper was taken into custody.
Senior army officers have assured that action will be taken against the accused trooper in the shortest possible time, the spokesman said.
The trooper, presently with a battalion of anti-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles, was undergoing a battle field nursing assistant course at a field hospital in Wanigam, Pattan, he added.
A special investigation team is presently probing the allegation of abduction and gang rape of the woman in Manzgam village of south Kashmir's Kulgam district.
