Prayers and candle-light vigils were held across Mumbai and various parts of the country on Thursday to pay homage to the victims on the first anniversary of the 26/11 terror attacks.
A memorial for 18 security personnel, including National Security Guards commander Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, is to be unveiled by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in Mumbai.
A 'Suraksha March' of the Mumbai police and various security agencies has been organised from the Gateway of India to Girgaum Chowpatty.
The Mumbai police held a peace flag march in a show of strength from the Air India building at Nariman Point to Girgaum Chowpatty. The march will also include Force One, the Quick Response Team and the police team's newly-acquired armoured vehicles.
Later, a memorial function is slated to be held at the Indian Merchant's Chamber building for the victims. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan will attend this event.
At Hotel Taj Mahal and Hotel Trident, a low-key anniversary ceremony for the staff and their families would be held in the evening. One section of the Trident will be kept open for the public to come and light candles.
At 6 pm, the home minister is scheduled to inaugurate a 26/11 memorial at the police gymkhana at Marine Drive. He is also expected to visit Nariman House, and pay homage to the martyrs at the Gateway of India.
