October 11, 2013 18:38 IST

Mohammad Ejaz Ahmed, an alleged operative of the Indian Muslim Mohammadi Mujahideen, was on Friday produced before a Hyderabad court and remanded in judicial custody.

Ahmed, who was wanted for several crimes, was brought down from Kuwait with the help of the Interpol.

The operative was wanted for his alleged involvement in the murder of a Vijayawada businessman. Ahmed is believed to have being given the order to carry out the murder by Mohammad Ghori, who was heading the IMMM.

Ghori is said to have worked for the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and had set up modules for them under the banner of the IMMM. He ran modules in Hyderabad and other parts of Andhra Pradesh but was killed by the police in Nizamabad in 2000.

Ahmed is accused of murdering a jeweller and carrying out three blasts in cinema theatres in Vijayawada. It is alleged that the murders were carried out for money and the same was used to finance terror activities in Andhra Pradesh.

The 35-year-old terror accused fled India in 2006 and was hiding in Kuwait.

An officer in the Hyderabad police told rediff.com that Ahmed was an important catch. It was the IMMM that played a dominant role in Hyderabad and Nizamabad until the birth of the Indian Mujahideen.
