Barely two days after filing a complaint against controversial Janata Dal (United) MLA from Mokama, Anant Singh, a prominent Patna-based builder on Wednesday moved the court seeking withdrawal of his petition.
Builder Anil Kumar Sharma's counsel R K Giri filed a fresh petition in the court of Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate Sarabjit, seeking his permission to withdraw the complaint lodged against Singh and his unknown cohorts under various sections.
Sharma had filed the complaint before Chief Judicial Magistrate Raghavendra Singh on November 12, accusing the MLA of having secured his signature and that of his wife on several blank cheques after issuing threats to kill them. The builder had also charged Singh with having forcibly taken his vehicle.
After taking cognizance of the complaint on Tuesday, the chief judicial magistrate had transfered it to the court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate who had fixed November 25 for recording the submissions of the complainant under oath.
The SDJM ruled that the petition seeking court's permission to withdraw the case would be heard on that date. Anant Singh, a ruling JD(U) MLA, was recently in news for having assaulted scribes who had gone to his Mall Road residence in Patna on November 1 to seek his comments on the alleged rape and murder of a woman in which his involvement was suspected. He was arrested after the incident but has been released on bail.
