Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's efforts to broker peace between sulking Amar Singh and Ram Gopal Yadav received a setback on Tuesday with Singh conveying his inability to attend the party's cultural festival at Saifai by posting an open letter on his personal blog.

Yadav was expected to talk to Amar Singh and Ram Gopal at Saifai where the entire party leadership has gathered for its annual programme.

In the blog, Singh said: "Since Ram Gopal Yadav described me as mentally sick, after this public humiliation it would not be appropriate for me to attend the Saifai Mahotsav".

"Respected Netaji, I had tried to contact you and (Mulayam's son) Akhilesh over phone. Since we were unable to talk over phone, I was forced to send you this message through my blog," Singh said in the letter titled: "A message for respected Netaji".

Singh said he was not mentally but physically ill, which prompted him to "commit the crime of seeking leave. You may punish me in any manner..."

Singh further wrote that going by the recent turn of events, "I get this feeling that if something good happens then that credit goes to somebody else, while if things go wrong, then immediately I am blamed."

Some journalists, Amar Singh said, asked him if he was privy to some of Mulayam's secrets, to which his reply was "both of us have shared a relationship of trust with each other and on this issue neither of us will speak. Trust me, all these (secrets) will remain buried in my heart till my last breath."

Hinting at Ram Gopal's another statement that he (Amar) is responsible for the entry of film actors and corporates in the party and criticism by other party leaders that he is also responsible for degradation of socialism within the party's core, Singh while addressing Mulayam, said "for all this, I am not responsible".

"Who knows better than you (Mulayam) that my decision to resign from key party posts was not a political but a personal decision," Singh wrote in his blog in Hindi.
