Last updated on: November 29, 2016 13:43 IST

Two close aides of Nabha jailbreak mastermind Parminder Singh alias Penda have been arrested Dehradun with police suspecting that the incident may have been plotted at their hideout in the city.

Geeta Arora, wife of Penda’s friend Sunil Arora with whom the jailbreak mastermind was staying in a rented accommodation in the city’s Raipur area and an aide Aditya Mehra were arrested from their hideout yesterday, Senior Superintendent of Police Sadanand Date said.

However, Sunil Arora along with another accomplice managed to escape, he said.

Sunil is a close friend of Penda who was staying with the Aroras for six months till he left the city five days ahead of the jailbreak to execute it.

Date said the jailbreak in all likelihood was plotted at their hideout in Dehradun.

Several fake vehicle number plates, voter IDs, SIM cards, mobile phones, bullets, material used for making a bomb and Rs 2 lakh in cash have been recovered from the house where the duo was arrested, the SSP said.

Meanwhile, Parminder Singh has been shifted to a high security prison in the district, jail officials said n Tuesday.

Parminder along with Khalistan Liberation Front terrorist outfit Harminder Singh Mintoo and four other prisoners escaped after armed men in police uniform stormed the high-security Nabha prison at Patiala in Punjab on November 27.

Parminder was arrested from Kairana in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district on the day itself when the getaway vehicle was stopped at a police picket.

Superintendent of district jail Rakesh Singh said Parminder was shifted to a high security barrack in Muzaffarnagar on Monday.

No inmate is allowed to meet him, he said, adding that security of the jail has been upped.

An alert has been sounded in 65 district jails of Uttar Pradesh in the wake of the Nabha jailbreak.

Mintoo was nabbed from Nizamuddin railway station in New Delhi.
