Congress president Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel, while reacting to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's comments about him, has stated that he was never a candidate for the top post in the state.
Modi had declared that Gandhi and the Congress had finalised Patel as the chief ministerial candidate of Gujarat.
Not naming Modi, Patel said that it was sad that "people in responsible positions made irresponsible comments".
He also affirmed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would be the main campaigner for the party in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
