PM, Sonia arrive in blast-torn Ahmedabad

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in the blast-hit Ahmedabad on Monday along with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to visit the victims in the city.

They proceeded towards the city civil hospital where a high-intensity blast had claimed 23 lives on July 26. Sixteen blasts on Saturday ripped through the city claiming a total of 49 lives and injuring 145 people.

The prime minister, Sonia and Patil visited the injured at the civil hospital which was hit by a car bomb explosion. They also went to the site of the blast at the hospital. The prime minister was briefed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi who accompanied him during his visit.
