The police on Tuesday detained four persons from Maharashtra and seized maps of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Punjab and some materials written in Urdu, three days after the serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad.

"We have detained four people with maps of various cities of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Punjab. They also had some Urdu literature on them," Surendranagar district superintendent of police Ashok Yadav told PTI.

They have been identified as Tariq Ahmed Sheikh, Imran khan Mohammadkhan, Vazir Khan Pathan and Hakimshah Fakir, the police said.

The police were trying to determine whether they had any links with the July 26 bombings in which 49 people were killed and more than 140
injured.

"All of them are from Maharashtra. We are currently interrogating them and cannot reveal anything further," Yadav said.

Urdu experts have been called to find out the contents of the literature seized from the quartet, police officials said.

The police were trying to find out if they had any links with outfits like SIMI or Indian Mujahideen and the purpose of their visit to Gujarat.

The police were also trying to know why they had taken maps of the three states with them.
