The kidnapping of an Indian working for a mobile phone contractor allegedly by the Taliban in Afghanistan on Friday is the third such incident related to targeting of an Indian in that country in the last four months.

Four months ago, Maniappan R Kutty, a jawan of Border Road Organization, engaged in building of Zaranj-Delaram highway, was abducted by the Taliban and three days later his body was found in the Kandahar province.

In February this year, Indian engineer Bharath Kunmar, working with a Turkish firm, was killed in a bomb blast in Farah province.

Indian doctors working in various hospitals in Afghanistan also received threats from the Taliban, which was ousted from power in 2002.

New Delhi has taken up with Kabul at the highest level the issue of security of all Indians working in Afghanistan, including when Afghan President Hamid Karzai had visited Delhi earlier this month.

A team of Indian officials had visited Kabul earlier this month to review the security of Indian nationals working in Afghanistan following which more than 200 BRO commandos were sent to that country for security of the Indians.
