Act strong on Chinese intrusion in Ladakh: Omar to Centre

April 24, 2013 17:56 IST

Asking the Centre to “act strong” with China on the Ladakh intrusion issue, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said dealing on such matters should be unambiguous and similar in the case of both Pakistan and China.

"The Union government should give a clear-cut message to China on the intrusion issue. These kind of situations have always put people living in frontier areas under difficulties, besides hampering the development process," he said.

Omar said the Centre's dealing on such issues should be unambiguous and similar vis-a-vis both the neighbours -- Pakistan and China.

"We would like the central government to take up this issue with both China and Pakistan strongly and on the same terms, so that no such incident takes place in the future," he said

Omar was addressing public meetings in Bani, Lohai-Malhar and Dugain, nearly 300 km from Jammu, in Kathua district.

Chinese troops had entered the Indian territory in Daulat Beg Oldi sector in eastern Ladakh and erected a tented post.

A platoon-strength contingent of China's People's Liberation Army came 10 km inside the Indian territory in Burthe in DBO sector, which is at an altitude of about 17,000 feet, on the night of April 15 and established a tented post there, highly placed sources had said.

A Chinese Army Platoon usually consists of nearly 50 men.

China had rejected reports about the intrusion and claimed that the PLA soldiers patrolled the Chinese side of Line of Actual Control without "trespassing" into it.
