Reacting strongly to the Indo- Pakistan joint statement in Havana on the formation of an anti-terror mechanism, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has described it as a 'conspiracy' against the country.

"Whatever took place is not right. This joint statement is a conspiracy against India. Its implementation will jeopardise the situation in Jammu and Kashmir," he said in his comments to RSS mouthpiece Panchjanya.

He demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should reveal what happened behind the scenes during his meeting with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in the Cuban capital.

After their meeting -- their first after the July 11 train bombings in Mumbai -- the two leaders issued the joint statement announcing the creation of the anti-terror mechanism.

Vajpayee said Pakistan would derive an advantage from the joint statement by taking 'further steps' in keeping with its 'evil designs'.

"I demand the prime minister tell the nation what happened behind the scenes in Havana," Vajpayee was quoted as saying by Panchjanya.
