Maitri Chakrawarti is shocked and inconsolable. It has been forty two days since her 13-year-old daughter Navruna was abducted. Her husband Atulya Chakarwarti is fed up with repeated assurance by the police to recover their daughter.
Navruna, a class 7 student, was abducted on September 19 from Bihar's Muzaffarpur district but the police are yet to make a breakthrough in the case.
Maitri Chakrawarti is inconsolable as there is no information about her daughter. She has stopped eating, surviving on water and tea alone. She hardly even sleeps.
Atulya is helpless. He is angry over the failure of the police to trace his daughter. A desperate Atulya tried to commit suicide by consuming sleeping pills last week. But he was saved as he got timely medical treatment.
"We fail to understand what to do and who to approach for help. We are devastated," Atulya told rediff.com over telephone from Muzaffarpur.
Anger against police inaction is growing in Muzaffarpur town where local residents including school students protested and demanded her recovery.
Navruna's friends have launched a page on Facebook to trace her.
A 'Save Navruna Group' is active on Facebook calling upon members to share the plight of her family and lend help in the safe recovery of the girl. The page has issued appeals under 'Save the daughter of Bihar'. "Aaj Aruna ke saath, kal aapke saath bhi ho sakta hai" (Today it has happened with Aruna, tomorrow it can happen to you too), a post reads.
The Additional Director General of Police Gupteshwar Pandey, however, said the police was serious in its efforts to recover the girl. "Police have been working in the right direction," he said.
"A team of the Special Task Force is working hard to trace her and a Special Investigation Team has been constituted to probe the case," he added.
The issue was raised by opposition parties who created a hue and cry about the failure of the police. They assured Navruna's family that they would help trace her.
